Slow-Cooked Pulled Pork Recipe

Ingredients:

– 4-5 pounds pork shoulder or pork butt
– 1 large onion, sliced
– 4 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 cup barbecue sauce
– 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
– 1/2 cup chicken broth
– 1/4 cup brown sugar
– 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
– 1 tablespoon chili powder
– 1 tablespoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon ground mustard
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
– 2 tablespoons olive oil

 Instructions:

1. **Prepare the Pork:**
– In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, chili powder, ground cumin, ground mustard, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.

2. **Sear the Pork:**
– Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. This step adds flavor to the meat.

3. **Slow Cook:**
– Place the sliced onion and minced garlic at the bottom of a slow cooker. Place the seared pork on top of the onions and garlic.
– In a separate bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the pork.

4. **Cook:**
– Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

5. **Shred the Pork:**
– Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a large cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat.
– Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the sauce and juices.

6. **Serve:**
– Serve the pulled pork on buns for sandwiches, or as a main dish with sides like coleslaw, potato salad, or cornbread.

Enjoy your delicious slow-cooked pulled pork!
