Skillet Flatbread Recipe
Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 3/4 cup warm water
– 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
– 1 tablespoon fresh herbs (such as parsley or rosemary), chopped (optional)
– Butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
1. **Prepare the Dough:**
– In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
– Add the olive oil and warm water gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
– If using cheese and herbs, fold them into the dough.
– Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
2. **Rest the Dough:**
– Cover the dough with a clean towel and let it rest for about 15 minutes to relax the gluten.
3. **Shape the Flatbreads:**
– Divide the dough into smaller portions (about 4-6, depending on desired size).
– Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it with your hands or a rolling pin into a disc about 1/4 inch thick.
4. **Cook the Flatbreads:**
– Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
– Place one of the dough discs into the hot skillet.
– Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
– Repeat with the remaining dough discs.
