– 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
– 1 cup (240ml) water
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

 Instructions

1. **Preheat the oven** to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.

2. **Prepare the cake batter:**
– In a large mixing bowl, beat together the sugar and vegetable oil until well combined.
– Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
– Stir in the vanilla extract.
– In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
– Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

3. **Bake the cake:**
– Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
– Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
– Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then poke holes all over the cake with a skewer or a fork.

4. **Prepare the syrup:**
– In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice.
– Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
– Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

5. **Soak the cake:**
– Slowly pour the hot syrup over the cake, making sure it soaks into the holes.
– Let the cake sit for at least an hour to absorb the syrup fully.

6. **Serve and enjoy:**
– Cut the cake into squares and serve. Enjoy your moist, syrup-soaked cake!

Feel free to customize the recipe with additional flavors or toppings, such as a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
