Herb and Cheese Fried Bread
Ingredients:
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 cup plain yogurt
– 1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
– 1/2 cup chopped fresh herbs (parsley, dill, or green onions)
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 egg
– 1/4 cup melted butter
– Oil for frying
Instructions:
1. **Prepare the Dough:**
– In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
– Add the yogurt, egg, melted butter, grated cheese, and chopped herbs to the dry ingredients.
– Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
2. **Shape the Dough:**
– Place the dough on a lightly floured surface.
– Roll the dough into a large circle, about 1/2 inch thick.
– Cut the dough into 8-10 equal wedges, like a pizza.
3. **Fry the Bread:**
– Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
– Place the dough wedges into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
– Fry the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
4. **Serve:**
– Remove the fried bread from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
– Serve warm, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
