French Apple Cake

Ingredients:

  • 4 large apples (a mix of tart and sweet varieties is ideal)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Apples:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan.
    • Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Aim for thin slices so they cook evenly and create a tender texture.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Combine with Dry Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  4. Add the Apples:
    • Gently fold the apple slices into the batter, ensuring each slice is coated. The batter will be thick and mostly apple slices.
  5. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
    • Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and transfer it to a serving plate.
    • Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar.

This French apple cake is best served slightly warm or at room temperature. It’s a delicate, moist cake with a wonderful apple flavor and a lightly caramelized crust. Enjoy this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence!
