1. Rinse the Rice:

  • Place the rice in a large bowl and cover it with cold water. Gently swirl the rice with your hand, then drain the water. Repeat this rinsing process 2-3 times until the water is mostly clear. This step helps remove excess starch, which can make the rice too sticky.

2. Add Rice and Water to the Rice Cooker:

  • Transfer the rinsed rice to the rice cooker’s inner pot.
  • Add the measured water. The general rule is 1 cup of rice to 1.25 cups of water, but this can vary slightly depending on the type of rice and your preference for firmness.
  • Add salt and butter or oil if using. These ingredients are optional but can enhance the flavor of the rice.

3. Cook the Rice:

  • Close the lid of the rice cooker and select the appropriate setting for white rice (if your cooker has settings).
  • Press the start button to begin cooking. The rice cooker will automatically cook the rice and switch to “keep warm” mode once it’s done.

4. Let the Rice Rest:

  • After the rice cooker switches to “keep warm,” let the rice sit for an additional 5-10 minutes without opening the lid. This resting time allows the rice to finish steaming and results in fluffier grains.

5. Fluff the Rice:

  • Open the lid and use a rice paddle or a fork to gently fluff the rice, separating the grains.

6. Serve:

  • Serve the rice hot as a side dish to your favorite meals.

Tips:

  • Adjust the Water: If you prefer softer rice, add a little more water. For firmer rice, reduce the water slightly.
  • Rice Types: This recipe is for white rice. For brown rice, wild rice, or other grains, you’ll need to adjust the water ratio and cooking time.
  • Flavor Variations: You can cook the rice with broth instead of water or add herbs and spices for added flavor.

This method ensures that you get perfectly cooked, fluffy rice every time using a rice cooker. Enjoy your rice as a side dish with curries, stir-fries, grilled meats, or any of your favorite dishes!
