Creamy Beef Steak with Gravy and Scalloped Potatoes
Ingredients:
**For the Beef Steak:**
– 2 lbs beef steak (such as ribeye or sirloin)
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 1 tablespoon butter
**For the Gravy:**
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 cups beef broth
– 1/2 cup heavy cream
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
– 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
**For the Scalloped Potatoes:**
– 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 2 cups grated cheese (such as cheddar)
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 cups milk
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/2 teaspoon paprika
– Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
**For the Scalloped Potatoes:**
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
3. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the dish. Top with half of the chopped onions and half of the grated cheese. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cheese.
5. In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
6. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the mixture thickens.
7. Pour the milk mixture over the layered potatoes.
8. Sprinkle the top with paprika.
9. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
10. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
**For the Beef Steak:**
1. Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides.
2. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
3. Sear the steak for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.
4. Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest.

**For the Gravy:**
1. In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of butter and melt over medium heat.
2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
3. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
4. Stir in the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
5. Simmer until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
**To Serve:**
1. Slice the rested steak thinly.
2. Arrange the steak slices on a serving plate and pour the gravy over the top.
3. Serve alongside the scalloped potatoes.
