Classic Flan Recipe
Ingredients:
– **1 cup (200g) granulated sugar**
– **6 large eggs**
– **1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk**
– **1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk**
– **1 tablespoon vanilla extract**
Instructions:
1. **Prepare the Caramel:**
– In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the sugar until it is completely dissolved and golden brown, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
– Carefully pour the hot caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish, swirling the dish to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
2. **Prepare the Custard:**
– Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
– In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs lightly. Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.
– Pour the custard mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish.
3. **Bake the Flan:**
– Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water to about halfway up the sides of the flan dish, creating a water bath.
– Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
4. **Cool and Serve:**
– Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
– To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Place a large plate over the dish and invert to release the flan. The caramel will run over the top as a sauce.
– Slice and enjoy!

Tips:
– Make sure to watch the sugar closely as it melts to avoid burning.
– When inverting the flan, do so carefully as the caramel sauce may spill.
