Ingredients:
– 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
– 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
– 1 cup heavy cream or milk
– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or fresh, if available)
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. **Prepare the Ingredients:**
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
– Grease a baking dish with butter.
2. **Layer the Potatoes:**
– Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
– Top with half of the sliced onions and minced garlic.
– Season with salt, pepper, and half of the thyme.
3. **Add the Cheese:**
– Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the potato layer.
– Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, garlic, and thyme.
– Pour the heavy cream or milk evenly over the layered potatoes.
4. **Bake the Casserole:**
– Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 40-45 minutes, until the potatoes are tender.
– Remove the foil, sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese and Parmesan on top, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
