Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheese sticks for easy filling)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
    • Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Shape the Breadsticks:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Roll out the dough into a rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick).
    • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella or place cheese sticks along one end of the dough. Fold the dough over the cheese and cut into strips (about 1 inch wide).
    • Pinch the edges to seal the cheese inside, then twist the strips gently to form breadsticks.
  3. Add Toppings:
    • Place the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet.
    • Brush each breadstick with melted butter, then sprinkle with garlic powder, Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley.
    • Serve hot, with marinara sauce or a cheese dip if desired.

These cheesy breadsticks are soft on the inside with a crispy, flavorful crust. Perfect as an appetizer, snack, or accompaniment to pasta dishes. Enjoy!
