Mashed Potato and Ground Beef Casserole

Ingredients:
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
For the Ground Beef Layer:

- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce
For the Topping:
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and mash them with butter, milk, salt, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.
- Stir in chopped parsley, if desired, and set aside.
- Cook the Ground Beef:
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, thyme, and oregano, and stir in the tomato sauce. Simmer for a few minutes, then remove from heat.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a baking dish, spread the mashed potatoes evenly as the base layer.
- Top with the cooked ground beef mixture, spreading it evenly over the potatoes.
- Add the Cheese Topping:
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top of the casserole.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Serve:
- Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
