French Apple Cake
Ingredients:
- 4 large apples (a mix of tart and sweet varieties is ideal)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions:
- Prepare the Apples:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan.
- Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Aim for thin slices so they cook evenly and create a tender texture.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine with Dry Ingredients:
- In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Add the Apples:
- Gently fold the apple slices into the batter, ensuring each slice is coated. The batter will be thick and mostly apple slices.
- Bake the Cake:
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and transfer it to a serving plate.
- Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar.
This French apple cake is best served slightly warm or at room temperature. It’s a delicate, moist cake with a wonderful apple flavor and a lightly caramelized crust. Enjoy this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence!
