Ingredients

  • 10-12 dumplings (frozen or fresh, any filling of your choice, such as pork, chicken, or vegetable)
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar (optional, for tanginess)
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup spinach or bok choy, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Broth: In a large pot, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add Broth and Seasonings: Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and water. Stir in the soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, and rice vinegar (if using). Bring the broth to a boil.
  3. Add Dumplings: Once the broth is boiling, carefully add the dumplings to the pot. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes if using fresh dumplings, or about 8-10 minutes if using frozen dumplings, or until the dumplings are cooked through and float to the surface.
  4. Add Vegetables: Add the mushrooms and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in the spinach or bok choy and let it wilt in the hot broth.
  5. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the soup and add salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Serve: Ladle the soup into bowls, making sure to include several dumplings in each serving. Garnish with chopped green onions and fresh cilantro for extra flavor.
